How do you override an HP PSC 1610 printer from the States so that it can use UK ink?

In the States it would use HP 94 %26amp; 95. In the UK you can only purchase HP 338 %26amp; 343. Both of these are compatible with the PSC 1610, but I receive an error message saying that I can only use 94%26amp;95. Is there any way I can override this? I am using genuine HP ink. It would take a firmware change. Better just to buy a cheap printer in the UK.
